The Gift

(Artist, Kazuhiko Nakamura)

I bade you stay
You chose to go
And there I was, bereft
In my insolent somnambulance
Feeling your heartbeat
Somewhere out in the world
Flying curlicues in the sky
Gluttonous in your desire
To see it all
To live it all
The glorious panoramica
Yet, if you only knew
That you were but a delirious diorama
Miniature in form,
Upon my head
You never left
-- I created it all for you

  1. This is interesting.. I don't know the relationship you are speaking of... so many things come to mind.... of course most prevalent is the lovers of my life.... I never stopped loving them,,,, I don't think love goes away. Even during the worst, most hurtful breakups. The other thing I thought was my son moving out at 18. He wasn't ready and I told him that.... didn't matter. I love the words "panoramica" and "diorama".... really played well.......

  2. Thank you! You are right John, this piece is about letting go yet not wanting to let go. You nailed it. It could be a lover or a child wanting to leave the nest. I think creating the little world is a metaphor for holding on, keeping them safe, not really ever letting go in your heart. Also, I wasn't sure about the word "panoramica" as it is not a real word per se but it seemed like the only word I wanted to use here. Again, thank you both, River and John for your comments. xoxox

  4. Hi John, thank you for the love! Things have been a bit off in my universe but I'm working through them to get back to what I love doing best, writing and writing poetry. xoxoxox
